Give us your best shot! The rules for this community-wide contest are simple: as you enjoy the summer at our parks, capture these moments on your camera! Photos must be taken at Plainfield Park District park sites or facilities. You may submit as many photos as you’d like throughout the summer. All entries must be received no later than
3 p.m. on Friday, Sept 5. Photo Contest Entry Forms will be available online or at the Recreation/Administration Center. To enter your photos in the contest, pick-up or download an official Photo Contest Entry Form, print out an 8”x10” photo, enclose payment, and mail or drop-off to Kelly Banach at the Recreation/Administration Center, 23729 W. Ottawa St., Plainfield, IL 60544. Winning photos will be displayed in the Recreation/Administration Center! Prize categories include: best overall photos, best landscape photos and best people photos. Winning photos may be used in our brochure and on our web site. This course was developed to make children ages 7-11 feel safe and lessen the dangers of being home alone. Topics to be discussed include having a plan for being by myself, how to use the telephone correctly, posting emergency numbers, locking doors and windows, checking in with parents or a trusted neighbor, what to do in case of a fire, adopting a family code, what to do if followed and how to use and make a first aid kit. Community members are invited to assist in the planting of native prairie grasses and the removal of non-native vegetation. A lunch sponsored by Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross will be provided for volunteers at noon. Volunteers will also receive packets of native butterfly seed mix. Celebrate the holidays with our ponies! Come to NTEC and get your child’s picture taken on our festively-costumed pony, Peter Pan. Pony rides will also be available for this occasion. Rides are 10 minutes long and all riders must have a signed release form. Helmets will be provided. First come, first served - no registration is necessary.

Wish for lots of snow and bundle up! This is a great family event! Join us for a snowman-building contest! Prizes will be given out to participants for categories such as most creative snowman, biggest snowman, most decorative snowman, and so on. Bring your own decorating materials! We will be serving hot chocolate and cookies while warming up by the campfire! Each family may build as many snowmen as they wish. However, only one entry per family for the contest.
